Abstract

The talk will present some of our latest work in utilizing user-generated content on the Web in applied lexical semantic Natural Language Processing tasks. For this purpose, we use the content of the collaboratively constructed (i) online encyclopedia Wikipedia, (ii) online dictionary Wiktionary, and (iii) social Question & Answer archive WikiAnswers.

Having outlined different types of the lexical semantic knowledge found in the above mentioned Web-based resources, we present our experimental results on the tasks of (i) computing semantic relatedness of words, (ii) answer retrieval in Question Answering, and (iii) robust Word Sense Disambiguation for Information Retrieval at CLEF 2009 competition, where our system came first.
