The talk tackles the power consumption of location API in Android platform. Android, is the new open source embedded devices operating system developed by Google. Google provided an API for getting location information using different schemes localization schemes, currently, GPS, cellular and wifi. I will give a quick overview of the basic power consumption of Android and compare it to the power consumption of the location API in order to build a model for it. I will then propose a power-aware location API built on top of the original API and show how this proposed API can improve the power consumption by giving an application-specific location information. I will finalize my talk with the results of my work by showing the power profile of localization schemes. I will also show the improvement in power consumption after using the proposed API for different application needs.
