programming" these days, and has come to mean many things to many people.
This informal talk will try to provide a perspective on the brief history,
and examine some of the challenges to exploiting the ideas behind
the concept of "anytime" algorithms.
The discussion will be based on experience with attempts to develop practical
sytsems which use constraints, iterative improvement, and solution evaluation
functions, with the goal of identifying some interesting tradeoffs in the
exploitation of any fundamental "anytime" concepts.
