Network-on-Chips: offline and online methodologies

Guy Even is member of the faculty of engineering at Tel Aviv University. His research covers topics such as routing, scheduling, and covering and packing problems in general, with an emphasis on approximation algorithms. He was the Ph.D. advisor of Moti Medina.
Network-on-Chips (NoCs) are packet forwarding networks that support communication between modules (i.e., cores) on a chip. NoCs replace traditional interconnections, such as point-to-point interconnections and busses, introduce an abstraction of communication, and hide the details of how data is actually delivered.
In this talk we present two NoC design methodologies, one for the offline and the other for the online case. For the offline case, we suggest to use periodic scheduling. For the online case, we propose a Software Defined Network (SDN) approach.
