Abstract

To achieve a high quality global illumination imagery, even with Instant

Radiosity thousands of Virtual Point Lights (VPLs) need to be evaluated
for every pixel.
We present several methods to significantly reduce the number of VPLs
that need to be considered during computation. Preprocessing visibility
information and carefully subsampling of VPLs preserve the high image
quality while the rendering time is decreased by orders of magnitude.
