Abstract

We will present results on our recent gamut mapping research.

Starting with a description of gamut mapping in current color management processes of the printing industry, we willI focus on small destination gamuts in particular newspaper printing. For this application it is a special challenge to find a good compromise between conservation of color, lightness, saturation, and local contrast. We present new approaches, including the description and use of image gamuts, geometric optimizations and spatial methods. A special focus is put on measuring and judging methods for gamut mapping algorithms.

In addition we will give a short overview over the research activities
done at the Media Technology Lab at Empa (Swiss Institute for materials Science and Technology).
