Abstract

First, we will describe the analysis of the co-variance of amino acid positions
within a multiple alignment of protein kinases from mammals, plants and
bacteria. Applying mutual information, characteristic amino acid sites have been
identified that markedly discriminate between the different organisms. Secondly,
we will discuss aspects of mutual information as a measure of distance between
variables in particular, for clustering genes and metabolites.
