Abstract

Development Phase: A comprehensive solution for monitoring

System, Network and Application, with a centralized interface of
events, for the network administrator is inevitable. Netx 2.0 serves the
purpose with a Fat Client Java Interface(installed at a remote location)
which communicates via http/https with Netx server, on the network
that is being monitored. The Netx solution is platform independent,
thanks to JVM. Various protocols are used for monitoring systems of
different platforms, application servers and Databases. The main
technologies leveraged are WMI for windows and WBEM for Linux
OSs.
Analysis Phase: Network monitoring that is currently implemented,
retrieves data by querying the MIBs and alerts are generated based on
SNMP traps (Application level). A study on incorporating IP traffic
analysis, to take Netx another step forward, is under progress.
Monitoring of IP traffic makes sense by identifying and presenting the
causes of n/w bottlenecks, thereby proving means for proper network
planning. Various techniques like packet tracing along a path by
querying the bridge tables and routing tables to recording routing
updates and flow data over a period in order to get a visibility into the
network cloud is being studied and analysed for implementation in
Netx.
