Abstract
We discuss recently developed constructions of stable local bases of
bi- and multivariate piecewise polynominals (splines) on simplicial
partitions of bounded domains. In contrast to classical smooth finite
elements, these bases are adaptively refinable, which facilitates
their use in the framework of modern multigrid and multiscale methods
of numerical PDEs and function modeling.
