control seem to be very different at a first glance, they share a variety of
common algorithms and techniques in the field of vision-based 3D
reconstruction. This presentation addresses different aspects of this field
on two examples: First, a system for the inspection of specular surfaces is
introduced as an example for industrial applications. Then, a vision-based
system for off-road navigation in desert areas is presented and finally
common techniques of these applications and their benefits for the 3D
reconstruction of indoor environments from a mobile platform are discussed.
