Abstract

The dominant feeling was that there should not be scheduled

talks. Rather we are aiming for lively discussions. The first
meeting will be to inventarize hot problems in the field.
Themes that will be addressed in the future are in any case:

- External geometry
- Modeling cluster computers
- Parallel algorithms that may be useful for external computing
- Clarifying the relation between parallel and external algorithms
- I/O Models, theory and practice

Friday we will add some more themes to this list, and decide
when to meet again to discuss one of these themes.

A following session might involve some presentation(s) providing
more detailled information on the topic or presenting an algorithm,
followed by a discussion to enhance the general understanding and
in order to make out ansatzpunkte for further research. Then it
may also become clear that a further session around this theme is
required.

A possible spin-off is that a subset of the people start to try to
solve one of the problems that have appeared as important and unsolved,
but i do not consider to be necessary in order to call the meetings
successful: the main goal is information exchange, and an increased
common awareness of what are the important issues in the field.
