Autonomous, graphically embodied agents are a versatile platform for
information presentation and user interaction. In this talk I will
present an embodied agent capable of providing real-time commentary
on a dynamic environment of many and frequent events. The agent is
implemented as a general framework designed to be on the one hand
highly domain-independent and reusable across different domains, and
on the other hand simple and homogeneous, avoiding problems arising
from multiple interacting systems controlling a single character. In
its current version, the agent provides real-time commentary on a
simulated horse race, for submission to the Gathering of Animated
Lifelike Agents showcase at the 7th International Conference on
Intelligent Virtual Agents in September.
