Abstract

he reconstruction of three-dimensional fragmented objects is a highly relevant task with many applications. Examples are the reconstruction of broken archaeological artefacts, human bone fracture reduction in surgery, the assemblage of industrial components, 3d object recognition and pose estimation, as well as the registration of range data.

This talk considers the whole processing chain: (i) data acquisition with a simple and low-cost laser scanner (using a commercial hand-held laser and a standard grayscale camera); (ii) the general registration of surfaces; (iii) special priors (e.g. mirror symmetry and symmetry axes) for matching fragments in different applications.
