Abstract

The evolution of drug-resistant genetic variants forms a major obstacle to

successful treatment of HIV-infected patients.
I will present computational methods to analyze the effect of viral genetic
polymorphisms on drug resistance and treatment failure. Based on these models a
rational approach to the design of optimal antiviral combination therapies is
proposed. Finally, I introduce a probabilistic model to describe the
evolutionary process of resistance development under selective pressure of drug
therapy.
