Abstract

With the genomes of human & number of other organisms
being made available at a rapid rate, the biologists
are suddenly flooded with massive amounts of data. The
breadth, density & complexity of genome data that must
be stored , accessed, and annotated immediately
suggests that computation will play a central role in
the postgenomic phase. Knowing only the sequence of
DNA does not always tell us about the structure &
function of the genes, nor does it tell us about the
combined action of protein products which is the
essence of higher order biological function. Complete
annotation will include the determination of structure
& function of proteins ,and a move from analysis of
these individual macromolecules to their complex
interactions that make up the processes of cellular
decisions. In the postgenomics era, computational
biology is expected to drive the life sciences
research. The presentation will outline some of the
computational challenges that the research community
is facing today. The presentation will also include a
brief description of the projects I had been involved
