What and Who

Designing Assistive Technologies for Instrumented Spaces

Prof. Dr. Antonio Krueger
University of Muenster
Talk

Antonio Krueger received a diploma in computer science from the
University of Saarbruecken in 1995. Afterwards he joined the DFG post graduate program "cognitive science" and finished it with a doctoral degree in 1999. He was early involved in several Artificial Intelligence projects at the German Research Centre for AI (DFKI GmbH), and later from 1999-2003 as a senior researcher and member of the SFB 378 "resource adaptive cognitive processes". Since 2004 he is a professor for Geoinformatics and Computer Science at the University of Muenster. In 2005 he was appointed the position of the managing director of the Institute for Geoinformatics in M=FCnster. His main research interests lie in the areas of intelligent user interfaces, user modeling and ambient intelligence.

Abstract

This talk will investigate the design of systems which intelligently
support users in a ubiquitous computing environment. The focus lies on
novel human computer interaction paradigms which act as a bridge
between the real and the digital world. The talk discusses the way how
the design and the implementation of these interaction paradigms can
be informed by technology, usability studies and cognitive
experiments. After an investigation of the advantages and drawbacks of
several deployed research prototypes from the areas of mobile embedded
interaction, public advertising, spatial navigation, and reactive
surfaces, the talk will present novel interaction patterns as well as
general user-centered design methods and principles for assistive
technology in instrumented spaces.
