Abstract

3-D computer graphics advanced to very high levels visually
and improving graphical quality is still a research area of great
interest. Our aim is to make the principles of human perception more
involved in the area of computer graphics in which the main source of
evaluation is the judgment of people, which is based on their
perception. Usage of perceptual principles in computer graphics is
useful for both optimizing the rendering process and generating more
qualified scenes. Our usage of perceptual principles in computer
graphics could be divided into three categories. The first part of our
framework is finding the visually important -salient- parts of 3-D
models and utilizing this information for several purposes in computer
graphics. In the second part, we investigate depth cues and we
automatically select rendering methods according to scene properties to
provide a correct depth perception. Perception-based stereo rendering
optimization study constitutes the third part in our framework. This
optimization method utilizes binocular suppression mechanism of human
visual system.
