and interaction the talk will give a brief overview over major results and
achievements of Prof. Herfet and then will introduce two dedicated actual
topics related to multimodality and media:
CASA: Computational auditory scene analysis uses sophisticated signal
processing architectures and elements of cognition to separate audio
sources. Those results can be further refined and improved by adding visual
modes. The talk will introduce a CASA setup with a human dummy head and pure
binaural sound processing.
Dynamic Shannon bounds: Many applications in the audiovisual and
communication domain require content delivery in guaranteed time. This is in
contradiction to the classical understanding of Shannon's theorem that
states the Shannon bound can be reached closest by enlarging the coding
length (and therewith the delay). The talk will introduce some surprising
results on how strict delay constraints influence the underlying error
protection architectures.
