Abstract

If simulations of cloth draping are to be included in a virtual reality environments one first has to come up with an accurate, efficiently

solvable model. Using particle systems one can build models that include characteristic features of textiles such as differences in weft and warp
direction, hysteresis effects etc. The high-dimensional systems of differential equations that come up by the particle system models have
to be solved efficiently but also the problems of collision detection and collision response require efficient solutions. We will sketch new
methods that have recently developped for these tasks.

In a system for a "virtual try on" of dressing there are several otherproblems that have to be solved in addition to the textile simulation.
One of them is to automatically preposition the parts of the dressing, which are in the right size and have to be sewed together, on a virtual
figurine, which is the "twin" of an individual human. Being followed by a textile simulation this automated prepositoning is essential for a
"virtual try on" without annoying user interaction.
