Abstract

In contrast to available multimedia software architectures, the
Network-Integrated Multimedia Middleware (NMM) presented in this
thesis considers the network as an integral part: Despite the inherent
heterogeneity of today's networking and device technologies, the
architecture allows to extend control and cooperation to the
network. Previously not available middleware services augment the base
architecture by providing additional support for developing complex
applications that include mobile users and devices. The performance
and applicability of the developed middleware and its services are
demonstrated by different realized application scenarios.
