Industries 4.0 is a term attributed to the next revolution in manufacturing industries. It aims to take the advances in various fields of information and communication technology to the industries to improve the quality as well as quantity of the output. Improving the working conditions of the factory worker is another important aspect of Industry 4.0. Visual computing as a whole offers many powerful functions in this regard – creating virtual counterparts of the process and products for experimentation, visualizing the workflow for planning and quality control purposes, monitoring and assisting the activities of the factory worker etc. In this talk we will be briefly discussing about the motivations for Industry 4.0 and the role of visual computing in this revolution. We will also demonstrate a specific use case which has been implemented at DFKI.
