International Workshop on Geometric Modeling, Computing, and Visualization

(LaTeX) Abstract:

In this talk, several texture generation techniques for facial
modeling will be presented. Input of our approach is a 3D range
scanned head model and several uncalibrated photographs. The input
photographs should roughly cover the head, but we do not need complete
information. Our goal is to generate one single high-resolution
texture of the face from this input.

To achieve this goal, we solve this problem in three sub-steps:
parameterization, texture resampling, and texture restoration.

For parameterization, we introduce a view-dependent stretch norm to
enhance the visual quality of textures with a fixed resolution.

During the texture resampling stage, our approach combines input
photographs, taking into account their visibility on the 3D
object. This photograph combination uses the multiresolution spline
technique to eliminate boundaries due to different lighting conditions
of the input photographs.

For practical reasons, the input photographs sometimes do not cover
the whole head. Thus, we introduce an image restoration technique for
filling missing parts of the texture.
