Abstract

Internet measurements are an important tool to analyze the deployment of protocols, evaluate the performance, resilience, and security of Internet hosts, and to generally better understand the current state of the Internet.

In this talk we will introduce the concept of Internet measurements and show its applications, ranging from techniques for scanning the IPv6 Internet, to analyzing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Internet traffic. We show that overall, traffic volumes increased after lockdowns have been imposed. Furthermore, traffic of remote working and video conferencing applications increases, whereas other parts of the Internet traffic decrease during the pandemic.
