Abstract

The 3D structure of a protein is intimately related to it's function.
Since most protein structures are functionally annotated, finding
structural patterns in a set of proteins structures that share the
same molecular function annotation is now feasible, and relevant to
gain insight on molecular function.
The objective of this work is to detect patterns in the 3D structures
of proteins that are annotated with the same protein function. The
focus of the work will be on developing a randomized algorithm capable
of finding known structural patterns. The method will be validated on
sets of functionally annotated proteins. This work aims to provide a
useful algorithm for creating libraries of patterns indicative of
particular molecular functions.
